New vs used shipping containers — which should you buy?
The single biggest pricing decision is condition. A new one-trip container has made exactly one ocean voyage from the factory and arrives in near-pristine condition with factory paint and almost no surface rust. A used cargo-worthy (CW) container has typically completed 10–15 years of international service, shows cosmetic dents and patches of surface rust, but remains wind- and watertight and fully structurally sound.
For storage, job-sites, agricultural use, and most cost-sensitive projects, a used cargo-worthy container delivers the same function for less. For container homes, customer-facing offices, retail builds, and any project where appearance matters, a new one-trip unit is almost always worth the premium because it eliminates rust remediation, repainting, and patching costs that quickly close the price gap.

A note on grading terminology
The industry uses inconsistent labels — “WWT”, “CW”, “grade A”, “IICL”. AM Shipping Containers grades every used unit against a documented 47-point checklist and shares the inspection report before purchase so you know exactly what arrives.

Condition is the biggest single driver of price: used cargo-worthy and wind & watertight units sit at the bottom of each range, while new and one-trip containers sit at the top. Delivery process — what to expect
We deliver via tilt-bed truck for 20ft containers and a combination of tilt-bed or flatbed + crane for 40ft and larger. A typical delivery requires roughly 100 feet of straight maneuvering room for a 20ft tilt-bed, and a level, gravel or compacted-dirt surface. We confirm a delivery window with you after your order is placed.
